Wat Umong

Forget wat I said about no more wats.  They are a fact of life here and can't be ignored in their diversity and beauty.  And very photogenic.

Consisting of 15 acres set in the forest at the base of Doi Suthep, Wat Umong was constructed in 1297.  There is a meditation centre where one can go and do meditation retreats, a lake

and meditation tunnels built by the king to keep a famous but mentally deranged monk within the grounds of the monastery as he had a habit of wandering off into the bush for days on end.
